Actinic Keratosis

Actinic keratosis (AK) affects millions worldwide, appearing as rough, scaly patches on sun-exposed skin—typically the face, hands, and shoulders. It is caused by cumulative sun damage, and these lesions are very common.

Enter medical grade Kanuka honey. This New Zealand native honey has demonstrated potent immunomodulatory and antimitotic properties in laboratory studies, suggesting it may help regulate abnormal cell growth while reducing inflammation. Unlike conventional treatments, honey offers a gentle, natural alternative with an excellent safety profile.

A compelling case published in Case Reports in Dermatology illustrates this potential. A 66-year-old man presented with a 21×20mm crusted, scaly lesion on his hand that had persisted for years. After applying Honevo medical grade Kanuka honey daily for three months, the lesion completely resolved. Remarkably, at nine-month follow-up, there was no sign of recurrence, and the patient remained clear at two years.
